MD Link Login
MD Link is a secure portal that allows health care providers to easily refer patients to UCSF Health and stay connected to their care.
This system is for providers who regularly refer patients to UCSF. Other providers should use our standard process for adult referrals or pediatric referrals.
When you refer patients to UCSF Health, you're part of our team, and MD Link helps you stay connected to your patients while they're in our care.
You can use MD Link to make online referrals, send messages to UCSF staff and access secure, view-only versions of your patients' electronic medical records. You can also place orders for lab and radiology services and get real-time notifications on test results, admissions and emergency department visits.
Frequently asked questions
- Who can have an MD Link account?
MD Link is open to medical providers, clinical staff and support staff. It's intended for providers who regularly refer patients to UCSF. New account requests may take a couple of weeks to review and process.
- Is MD Link the only way to refer a patient?
If you regularly refer patients to UCSF Health, MD Link is an efficient way to do it. But referring by fax is always an option:

- Will I be able to access a patient's results if I don't use MD Link to refer that patient?
Regardless of how you refer a patient to UCSF, you can use MD Link to access your patient's results as long as you are linked to the patient in the MD Link system. Providers on a patient's care team are automatically granted access to their patients seen at UCSF.
- What if I can't find a patient on UCSF MD Link?
Call the MD Link help desk at (415) 514-8790, or use MD Link's messaging feature to send a message requesting patient access.
- Can my staff also access MD Link?
Yes. Your staff may request access by filling out an application.
- Will my MD Link account expire?
It could. UCSF security may disable MD Link accounts with no recent usage.
