UCSF Health’s organ transplant program is one of the largest and most highly regarded in the world. With advances in surgical techniques and improved drug regimens to prevent organ rejection and infection, organ transplantation is now widely recognized as the best treatment for a variety of diseases.
Since our program's founding in the 1960s, it has grown to include transplants of the kidneys, liver, heart, lungs and pancreas. Survival rates for our patients are among the highest in the country, even though we treat some of the most seriously ill patients.
