Gynecologic Dysplasia Clinic
The UCSF Gynecologic Dysplasia Clinic at Mount Zion, established over 50 years ago, is a specialty clinic focused on caring for women with diseases of the cervix, vulva and vagina associated with HPV (human papillomavirus), as well as precancerous lesions. These include women who have multifocal HPV-related disease along with other medical conditions.
Our overarching goals are to educate patients about the meaning of abnormal cervical cancer screening and HPV test results and to discuss our evidence-based approach. We believe knowledge is empowering and is an essential part of the healing process. As a patient, you'll be encouraged to participate in choosing options that best align with your preferences and values.
Many patients come to us from places beyond the greater Bay Area, from Northern California to the Central Valley. You may be referred to our clinic for diagnostic, surgical or nonsurgical procedures. We offer the full range of screening and treatment options for cervical dysplasia, including diagnostic colposcopy (a magnified view of the cervix with biopsy) and surgical procedures such as loop excision (LEEP) and cone biopsy.
In addition, ours is one of the few clinics to provide nonsurgical alternatives – such as cryotherapy and office-based laser treatment – for women of childbearing age. These have been associated with fewer complications in future pregnancies. We also offer various treatment options for vulvar dysplasia, including laser and a variety of topical therapies.
