Fontana Tobacco Treatment Center
The UCSF Fontana Tobacco Treatment Center offers classes as well as individual consultations with health care professionals trained in treating tobacco addiction. We help tobacco users – including smokers, vapers and smokeless tobacco users – maximize their chances of quitting for good.
The center was named in memory of Jeanne Fontana, who was grateful to the center for helping her overcome her addiction to cigarettes. She made the Fontana Tobacco Treatment Center a beneficiary of her trust, funding current programs and establishing an endowment for future ones.
The center's services include:
- Stop Smoking/Vaping/Chewing Class – This four-week interactive course focuses on smoking and health, addiction, motivation and strategies for quitting. The class is led by certified tobacco treatment specialists: registered nurse Suzanne Harris, physician assistant Sonia Sharma, and pharmacists Lisa Kroon and Robin Corelli.
- The UCSF Fontana Tobacco Center Freedom From Smoking/Vaping/Chewing Support Group – This is for graduates of the Stop Smoking/Vaping/Chewing Class, including those who aren't yet living tobacco-free. To become and stay tobacco-free, people often benefit from extra support. The group meets Mondays from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. on Zoom.
Smoke-free environment
Please note that UCSF Medical Center is a smoke-free environment. Smoking in and around the hospital premises and affiliated sites is prohibited. Hospital patients who smoke will receive nicotine replacement therapy and counseling from our smoking cessation team. Nicotine replacement products are available in the hospital gift shops at Parnassus and Mount Zion.
