Dr. Jeffrey L. Wolf is a hematologist with expertise in cancers of the bone marrow and blood, as well as in bone marrow transplantation to treat these cancers. His primary focus in both patient care and research is myeloma, the second most common blood cancer. He directs UCSF's Multiple Myeloma Program and the Stephen and Nancy Grand Multiple Myeloma Translational Initiative – a program to support the development of better treatments – at the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Wolf's current research interests are in measuring minimal residual disease in patients who have undergone successful treatment for myeloma, as the results are useful in predicting long-term survival.

Wolf earned his medical degree at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Chicago and completed a residency in medicine at the University of California, San Diego. He completed a fellowship in hematology and oncology at UCSF, followed by a bone marrow transplantation rotation at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

In 1979, Wolf helped establish the bone marrow transplant program at the City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center in Duarte, California. In 1984, he helped establish the first bone marrow transplant unit based at a community hospital in the United States, at Alta Bates Summit Medical Center in Berkeley. He joined UCSF in 2007.

    My blood test results are not improving and Dr Wolf is on top of everything he suggests that if counts continue there might be treatment in my future. He discussed it with me and I feel very secure with his lead. He is the best doctor I've ever had.

    Care provider left most of the appointment to a new fellow who knew nothing about the disease. Care provider did not remember meeting me at a previous visit. Which is understandable but I think they should have reviewed notes from the previous visit and realized that. Also they gave me information that was different from previous visit. I left somewhat confused.

    Dr. Wolf is incredible!! During the telephone visit he reviewed my records and gave me concrete advice. He asked for additional medical records and after I emailed them he made a follow-up call to me with additional recommendations. Dr. Wolf rocks!!!

    I am assuming you are referring to Dr. Wolf (hematology) here. He is the finest most caring and knowledgable doctor I have ever had the pleasure of knowing and working with. He has the (rare) ability to put a patient at ease within around ten seconds of entering the room. Best "bedside manner" or empathy or confidence in the patient that I have ever come across. A human being of immense heart and concern for his patients. Best explanations of difficult topics (for laypeople) that I have seen. As a university professor myself for 32 years I can only imagine that his teaching skills are off the charts. I feel that I am in the (THE) best place in the country to bring my multiple myeloma under control and my trust in my doctor is absolute and I consider myself extremely lucky. We conductors are usually sparing of compliments (alas) but in this case I can't say enough about Dr. Wolf and none of it is hyperbole!
