Dr. Drew Lansdown is an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in sports medicine and surgeries of the knee, shoulder and elbow. He treats a wide range of conditions, including knee ligament injuries, meniscus and other cartilage injuries, rotator cuff tears, shoulder instability, shoulder arthritis, and shoulder and elbow injuries related to throwing. He cares for athletes of all ages and skill levels.

Lansdown performs total shoulder replacements and reverse shoulder replacements, and he is trained in advanced arthroscopic techniques. He also has experience in procedures for knee joint preservation.

Lansdown's research interests include anterior cruciate ligament injuries, rotator cuff tears and cartilage injuries. He studies how to use advanced MRI techniques to improve diagnosis and treatment for knee and shoulder conditions.

Lansdown earned his medical degree at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, graduating with honors. While completing a residency in orthopedic surgery at UCSF, he received the UCSF Exceptional Physician Award. He completed a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at Rush University Medical Center.

Lansdown reviews articles for numerous medical journals, including the American Journal of Sports Medicine, Journal of Orthopaedic Research, and Journal of Bone & Joint Surgery. He has served as an assistant team physician for the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Bulls, in addition to serving as team physician for high school football teams in Chicago and the Bay Area.

    This was my first interaction with Dr. Lansdown and it was all positive. I would recommend him for consult but I have no experience with a surgical ability so I would be hesitant to recommend him for that.

    The only uncomfortable part of the experience was figuring out how to juggle communicating to Dr. Lansdown and the two visiting doctors. I felt awkward only speaking to Dr Lansdown and ignoring the two visiting doctors and tried to include them in the conversation. One of them avoided interaction while the other one did their best to acknowledge me. It would have been good to just make clear they are shadowing and maybe to pretend they were not there to make it clear for the patient on what to do. They also were clearly getting tired standing and I felt like I couldn't help but shorten my interactions so they didn't have to stand anymore. I didn't want this unexpected burden but I understand why they attended the appointment and I was willing to help them gain experience.

    I've had a long term experience with the Ortho Clinic (fractured clavicles/knee issues) and in my opinion they are absolutely terrific. Dr. Lansdown has been my Ortho "guy" for the past couple of years and I'm greatly pleased with his capabilities and general kindness.

    I wish I got a better warning of the pain I would have post surgery but it did pass in two days so not a huge deal and maybe I just missed the warnings they tried to give me.

    I had previously seen another orthopedist for this issue. this was a second opinion. this doctor was far more engaged than my first doctor. he showed more concern empathy and gave clearer and more complete explanations. I left feeling materially more confident in my treatment plan.
