Part of the UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center, the program was started nearly 20 years ago by Jane Clark and Regan Fedric, both certified as cancer exercise trainers by the American College of Sports Medicine.
During a one-hour session with an exercise counselor, you will receive education and training on activities related to cardio, strength, balance and flexibility. We work only with patients already able to safely perform these activities at a baseline level. After reviewing your current activity level and interests, the counselor will recommend sustainable exercises that match your abilities and needs. Our goal is to craft an exercise regimen that will be fun and healing.
Our counselors provide guidance on many types of exercise, including:
- Cardiovascular activities
- Weight lifting and resistance band use
- Standing, sitting and floor exercises
- Balance exercises
With funding from grants and donations, sessions are free to patients. Donations are accepted and appreciated. Learn more about how to give.
